Josh
Tech geek turned wine geek…
A Pacific Northwest resident since 2002 (with roots in Southern Idaho and studies at the University of Idaho and Colorado State), Josh brings a worldly perspective informed by travels throughout New Zealand, Germany, and the Mediterranean. He favors the rich character of Mourvèdre (with Cabernet Sauvignon a close second) and curates a diverse wine list featuring both New and Old World selections, with an emphasis on Washington wines, small-production vineyards, and distinguished wines from women and minority-led wineries. September and October Featured Artist: Kari Westphal
Kari Westphal’s work is rooted in a desire to capture and share the quiet calm, peace, and presence found in the natural world. Working exclusively in the ancient medium of encaustics—melting pure color pigments into heated beeswax and damar resin—she builds artwork layer by layer, fusing each pass with heat to reflect the passage of time and place.
In her practice, Westphal deliberately limits her palette to primary colors—red, blue, and yellow—alongside black and white. Mixing every hue from these core elements brings an intentional purity to her process, allowing organic depth, rich texture, and luminous light to emerge naturally from the wax. The tactile surface of her work catches and refracts light differently depending on the viewer’s position, inviting a slow, sensory connection with each piece.
Ultimately, Westphal aims to translate simple moments spent outdoors into enduring, peaceful visual spaces—offering viewers a quiet breath of light, texture, and presence.
