Tina grew up on Mercer Island, graduated from Mercer Island High School, and then from WSU in 1982. She met Joe, another Coug, in their senior year. Two years later in 1983, they tied the knot. They explored the wineries of Washington, Oregon, and California during the mid 1980s when there were fewer than fifty wineries in Washington, less in Oregon, and California was well ahead of both. They worked part-time at seven Washington wineries from 1985 - 1993. In 1988, they decided they would open a wine bar. In 2018, they did it. Thirty seven years of exploring wines from all over the world has led to the opening of "barrels...experience wine!" Come on in and pop a cork!
Our Artist through October 2023 is Angie Chatalas
Angie is a returning artist to Barrels. Angie is a Mercer Island based artist that strives to capture a glimpse of what may lie behind the veil of our human comprehension. Influenced by Marc Chagall, Pauletta Chanco, and Michael Schulties, her focus on the organic nature of objects in life has been a constant theme in her work. She often focuses on an other-worldly depiction of people, birds, and botanicals.

Since we have been allowed to reopen to the public, we have had two in person tastings, one with Passing Time Winery and the other with Mark Ryan Winery. Both were very well received. We will be hosting more in May. Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or sign up for our newsletter at info@barrelswinebar.com for more information about the upcoming tastings.

Here is a great article by
Eric Asimov of the
New York Times. https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/25/dining/drinks/wine-bar.html
"The term is nebulous and too often all-encompassing. The best are places for a quick snack and a glass or two for whiling away the evening."

We have the largest wine list of any restaurant, bar, or tavern on the island. We have over 40 glass pours and hundreds of bottles that you can buy to take home or pop the cork here. Using the Coravin system, we are able to pour glasses from the bottle without oxidizing the wine.
